Hi Cobirders, I took advantage of the nice day to try for the Redpolls on the nature trail west of the foot bridge from 11AM to 2PM. Prospect Pond had very few waterbirds.. I saw a Belted Kingfisher, Blue Jay. 2 White-breasted Nuthatch, Downy Woodpecker and a Black-billed Magpie near Bass Lake. American Coot 5, only 1 Ring-billed Gull plus about 20 ducks scattered along the far shore back lighted.

The lake is drained by a pair of metal coverts under the trail with a tiny holding pond which drains to east and then north to Clear Creek. There is a dirt path along it. Much improved since not too long ago. Should be good to see birds.

On way back nothing until birds on both sides of the trail. Besides the Nuthatches and at least 2 Downies there was a Northern Flicker with pale redface usually gray. On the right side a bird kept moving from a narrow evergreen to the nearby small small tree. It was a Say's Phoebe.

On way in I met a young birder went off on the old Tree Bridge trail and when he came back he reported two sparrows which I thought were immature White-throated Sparrows. They were at the base of a tree where someone had sprinkled bird seed. No Redpolls

At the bridge I watched the Mandarin Duck for awhile.

Colder today was 39.9 o f at 11AM and now at 12:30PM is snowing with big flakes coming heavily straight down! Lots a birds earlier nothing too unusual. There was a Blue Jay and a White-winged Junco. It was overcast all morning. Actually brighter now with the snow.

Birding is still neat.
