Today, Bill Tweit and I started at Tamarack Ranch, which was incredibly birdy in the juniper/russian olive hedgerow sections. We also went to Jumbo Reservoir, which was iced up, but had thousands of geese chilling on the ice. Then we went down to Haxtun and finished at Holyoke The rarest birds of day were 1 FIELD SPARROW, possibly of eastern race, at Holyoke... at the Lyons Fishing Hole, just e. of town on US 6. 1 SNOW x CACKLING GOOSE on Jumbo Res 1 SNOW x CANADA GOOSE in fields at Red Lion SWA 15 BH Cowbirds in field just nw. of Haxtun 3 GC Kinglets at Haxtun Park 1 Brown Creeper at Haxtun Park We also had WW Juncos at 3 locations in Logan and Phillips, which seems unusual for mid-winter We had no "rarities" at Tamarck, excluding the local specialties of N Cardinal (7) and RB Woodpecker (5) But we did have HUGE numbers of birds including 1555 American Robins 48 N Flickers 54 Eastern Bluebirds 230 Dark-eyed Juncos 203 American Goldfinches Good Birding Steven Mlodinow Longmont CO -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group.
