Hello, Birders. I had an errand to run this morning in Superior, Boulder County, so I figured I'd do some birding in the southeastern corner of the county.
On the far eastern corner of the Coalton Open Space, things were kinda slow, but it was nice to find a Sage Thrasher and an American Pipit right together. It's interesting to me how superficially similar, plumage-wise, those two unrelated species can appear; of course, they sound and behave differently. Also at Coalton were a glorious Golden Eagle, a couple of Common Ravens, a distant nest-building raven that I couldn't identify, and many Horned Larks. At Autrey Reservoir, in the incomprehensibly sprawling Rock Creek subdivision, there was a beautiful adult female Red-necked Phalarope just floating around out there amid the larger ducks. Speaking of ducks, there was quite an assembly, the highlight being a handsome adult male Greater Scaup. Also, 8 alternate-plumage, but not alternate-plumaged, Horned Grebes, a Say's Phoebe, and a bunch of Barn Swallows.
