Greetings All,

Nick Moore, earlier this week, suggest we bird Jackson County (aka North Park).
What a fabulous idea.
The rarest birds were

CLAY-COLORED SPARROW singing along Arapahoe NWR driving loop
HERRING GULL, adult, on Walden Reservoir
LAZULI BUNTING, in the spruce at Cameron Pass, elevation > 10,000 feet.

Other unusual birds included
2 CATTLE EGRET at Walden Reservoir
1 Ring-necked Duck x Lesser Scaup at Walden Reservoir

But, perhaps, the real highlight was the enormous number of waterfowl. Consider
these day-totals, most from Walden Res and Arapahoe NWR driving loop, but other
reservoirs contributed

1983 Canada Geese
1141 Gadwall
577 American Wigeon
355 Cinnamon Teal
72 Canvasback
408 Redhead
55 Ring-necked Duck
158 Lesser Scaup
6 Bufflehead
52 Common Mergasers
283 Ruddy Ducks
1340 Eared Grebes (okay, not waterfowl, but an impressive enough number)

We did have a migrant Marbled Godwit, Semi Sandpiper, 3 Greater Yellowlegs, and
1 Lesser Yellowlegs.

It was an impressive day, indeed. Nothing like seeing a Lazuli Bunting while
simultaneously hearing an Am Three-toed Woodpecker.

Cheers
