On a Denver Field Ornithologists field trip today, six of us found a very
nice blue morph Snow Goose and a Ross's Goose hanging out among the
Cackling and Canada Geese. The were also nice looks at Common Goldeneyes
and Buffleheads. Two male Hooded Mergs were hanging out on Duck Pond.
Toward the end of our trip, however, we encountered the Goosinator. The
Goosinator is a remote controlled, motorized device with a toothy face used
to harass the geese and ducks. Denver City Parks has contracted to use the
Goosinator to harass geese in hopes of reducing goose poop on lawns and
walks.

We watched as the Gossinator spooked the geese and handful of ducks on Duck
Lake and send them over to Ferril Lake. A few minutes later, the Goosinator
was on Ferril Lake harassing the geese back to Duck Lake. What was
completely incomprehensible was the run the Goosinator made at a flock of
diving ducks (Buffleheads, goldeneyes, scaup and Ruddy Ducks). Since these
diving ducks are not likely to wander on the lawns and walks, it is hard to
understand the reason for harassing them.
