More than 40 hearty Colorado birders turned out yesterday for the Barr Lake CBC. In temperatures soaring from 8 degrees up to 13, birders peered through fog and occasional blowing snow to detect 66 species of birds. Few rarities were found and poor visibility due to fog kept the number of waterbirds in particular down. Highlights included Hooded Merganser, Great Blue Heron, a good variety of raptors including Merlin, Long-eared Owl, Brown Creeper, and Harris's Sparrow. Rough-legged Hawks were well represented.
Thanks to RMBO for sponsoring the count and providing shelter from the cold, and to all of the volunteers who thought that 8 degrees with driving northerly winds would make a fun birding day. -- Chuck Hundertmark, Compiler 2546 Lake Meadow Drive Lafayette, CO 80026 303-604-0531 Cell: 720-771-8659 [email protected] -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group.
