I'm in the state for the weekend visiting family in Denver and Pueblo, and
yesterday managed to steal a few hours to chase after the Eastern Phoebe
reported from the Plum Creek bridge at Chatfield (no luck).

While I was there, I came across a Hermit Thrush foraging in tamarisk (near
a DE Junco) that initially had me thinking Ovenbird due to it's smaller
size, darker back, and greenish hue to the back -- all of which struck me
as distinctly different from the eastern Hermit Thrushes I'm used to seeing
in Ohio.

Any of you banders (or others) care to chime in on what Hermit
Thrush subspecies (or subspecies groups) you tend to encounter during
spring migration? During other times of year? This bird struck me as
spot-on for one of the pacific/northwestern subspecies (which I assume is
synonymous with the "western lowland" subspecies group in eBird?)

Here's the Chatfield SP--Plum Creek area eBird checklist (no Hermit Thrush
photos, unfortunately):

Good birding,
