Greetings All

I started today at Jackson Reservoir, then went to Prewitt, and eventually
finished my day at Haxtun in Phillips County. Still fairly slow birding out
there, but some nice highlights

At the NE corner of Jackson Reservoir, Morgan, on a small crescent of mud,
there were no shorebirds, but there was a Caspian Tern, undoubtedly one of the
3 found by Dave Dowell a few days ago.

In the state park, there was a Northern Waterthrush and a female Spotted x
Eastern Towhee. Neither parental species should be migrating quite yet and
neither breeds at Jackson, making this bird an oddity indeed.

At Prewitt, there is just enough shorebird habitat to hold 12 Baird's Sands and
3 Lesser Yellowlegs.
On the brighter side, the inlet canal walk is drying out nicely and should be
prime when the first real wave of passerines hits. The veg is luxuriant, as our
the mozzies. I didn't get there until nearly mid day but still eked out another
Northern Waterthrush plus Western Tanager, OS Flycatcher, Dusky and Willow
Flycatchers.

Akron Golf Course pond was bird free

In the town of Yuma, there was a subadult Mississippi Kite sitting in a tree in
someone's yard near the intersection of Beatty and Hwy 59. I believe there are
fewer than 5 records for the county.

On Wednesday, two days ago, at Crow Valley, Nick Moore and I had a White-winged
Dove (only my second in Weld) and some early migrants: Willow Flycatcher,
Wilson's Warbler, Cordilleran Flycatcher.

Also, there were 5 RB Nuthatches at Crow Valley on Wednesday and 5 at Prewitt
today; methinks it will be another invasion fall for that species.

Good Birding
