COBirders, On Saturday, December 20, approximately 150 birders took part in the Colorado Springs Christmas Bird Count. Our preliminary tally shows 97 species found on count day, with seven additional species during count week.
Of particular note, *Curve-billed Thrasher *was a new bird for the count. *Acorn Woodpecker*, very likely the same female from two winters ago (and back in Cheyenne Canyon), was found for just the second time on our CBC. *American Three-toed Woodpecker, White-winged Scoter,* and *Double-crested Cormorant* were also found for just the second time. Several other species were tallied for only the third time on the Colorado Springs CBC. I haven’t yet totaled all species, but Cassin’s Finch appears to have made one of its highest showings in the past 15 years. It was a beautiful day for the count, and we had a great turnout at the potluck dinner Tally Rally. Thank you to everyone that helped make this year’s count a success!
