Things continue to be slow at Chatfield. Yesterday (4/30) was so quiet that we didn't even catch any birds at the nets at the feeders at the Nature Center. Banded 3 House Wrens total for the day. Today was a little better, but not great; had hoped for a little more action with the change in the weather. Caught a total of 11 new for the season:
House Wren 3 Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1 (FOS) Orange-crowned Warbler 1 Spotted Towhee 1 Song Sparrow 1 (Banded 4/25/14) White-crowned Sparrow, Gambels 2 White-crowned Sparrow, Mountain 1 Red-winged Blackbird 1 We will be open daily,weather permitting, through May 31, EXCEPT for May 8-9. We will be opening nets at 6:30, and should have the first birds back at the station by 7:30. We will close by noon most days; earlier if it is too hot. On most days, you will see more birds if you come early, and will be more likely to avoid crowds.
