Well, if you count Purple Martin, we actually have 8 swallows on the state
list. Don’t forget that there is a state record for Cave Swallow, and will
undoubtedly be more going out in the future. So I took you at your word!

Subject: FW: [cobirds] El Paso County Birds today

Oops. I may be the only one to see 7 species of swallow in a single day in
Colorado – IF it were true. Typo! That should have read as “6 species”, which
is what I did list in the complete list at the bottom of my email. Thanks for
catching that folks.

4 of us took one of our favorite El Paso Co loops today: Big Johnson Reservoir
(conditions were terse), Squirrel Creek Rd (and pond/reservoir), Chico Basin
Ranch (pond at HQ).

Highlights were:

• 2 Peregrine Falcons
• 3 Great Horned Owl nests with young in or nearby each of them
• Bonaparte’s Gull (Big J)
• Swainson’s Hawks copulating on fence post; 3 different morphs of
Swainson’s Hawks seen. Dark chocolate, rufous, and standard.
• 7 species of swallow all in one county in Colorado on same day. Not
bad.
• Cassin’s Kingbird out on Squirrel Creek Rd.
