Lots of exciting birds showing up in the San Luis Valley. My wife Lisa was out at San Luis Lake State Park and had the unusual Dunlin in the mix of 12 species of shorebirds. There were 125 to 150 Willets, more than 100 Marbled Godwits, a Black-bellied Plover, and a dozen Sanderling. The Park is open and most of the shorebirds are near the boat ramp. A Lazuli Bunting was also seen at the lake. (all in Alamosa County) Meanwhile I went south and had the good fortune to find and photograph a Northern-Pygmy-owl (Conejos County). At John James Canyon (in Conejos County), the Black-throated Sparrows have returned, amongst the Sagebrush, Vesper, White-crowned and other sparrows in the area. Both Green-tailed and Spotted Towhees were seen as well. Please post the BT Sparrow to the RBA for Conejos County. Things are definitely heating up...... John Rawinski Monte Vista, CO
