First, thanks to Aaron Driscoll and Mark Peterson. Without their posts, we may not have noticed the differences between the Common and Pacific Loons on the reservoir this morning.
Not being in breeding plumage, the telltale black chin strap was a great ID help on the Pacific Loon. Also on the water were scads of Western Grebes, a lone American White Pelican, and a nice variety of other waterfowl though the total numbers were not high. There were a half-dozen or more Eastern Kingbirds, 57 Common Grackles, and a female Blue Grosbeak. Good birding, everyone.
