In Maryland/Pennsylvania/Virginia the song is chip-chip-chip-chee-bomp, abruptly ending, the first three notes short, deliberate, evenly spaced, and chip-sounding, the chee slightly higher than the first three but still short, the bomp slightly lower. I once, while in high school, picked up a dazed hooded warbler that had struck a glass window, held it as it recovered, and watched it fly away looking OK. I don't have time to see this bird, but hope many do. I would also like to in person hear that song. I've seen them in south Texas in spring migration, but don't recall any song. He's singing what is their second song that can be translated to, "I wanna rent a video" rather than the primary song of "tawee tawee tawee-teeoo". In my years in the east with hooded's, the second song is by far the most commonly sung song, at least from Tennessee south thru GA, AL, MS, and LA. It stuck out to me anyway.
