All:

The counts of Yellow-headed & Red-winged black birds, Starlings and
Grackles the past two weeks at Jim Hamm have been all over the place. Last
night it was 300 (probably closer to 500) Grackles that were the
predominant species, and the YHBL and RWBL counts have been up and down.
In my previous post on 8/31 I called out this weekend (9/13-14) as the
Blackbird Bonanza, but the birds counts lately have not been as high as
they were on 8/31.

Far be it from me to say "Don't come out", but I think/hope that the really
big numbers of 10,000+ birds will be a little later this month. It's still
a great place to bird, albeit a little small. Union Reservoir is right
across the road so easy to get some great birding in if you chose to come
out.

I'll post again when the counts go up, but you might put the weekend of
9/27-28 on your calendars as a reminder. In 2016 & 2017 I had seemed to be
the only birder out there before sunrise and I'm really excited to have
others see all the activity out there.
