COBirders,

Crow Valley Campground was full of birds today. I got there about 10:30 in a
cold light drizzle and left at 2:30 in a downpour.

Dominant bird of the day was Yellow-rumped Warbler but there were plenty of
other birds there as well. Ruby-crowned Kinglets about everywhere I looked,
lots of Orange-crowned Warblers, and a few Yellow Warblers. Several Blue-gray
Gnatcatchers, a single unidentified empid, Brown Thrashers, Western Kingbirds,
and House Wrens. A large group of White-crowned Sparrows were present with a
single Clay-colored among them. There were also 2 Lincoln’s Sparrows down by
the junipers. A single Bullock’s Oriole near the picnic shelter, and a pair of
Mallards in a flyover. At least 2 Hermit Thrushes and at least 8 Swainson’s
Thrushes. I think I had a Veery in with the thrushes but it flew by and I was
never able to re-find it. A Prairie Falcon flew over about noon.

Best of the day was a female Blackpoll Warbler and 2 Eastern Bluebirds. There
may have been more than 2 Eastern Bluebirds there but they were staying pretty
close to the ground and hard to see. One Plumbeous Vireo rounded out the mix.

Lark Buntings are back in a big way out on the grasslands.
