Rare, out-of-place and out-of-season species include: White-winged Dove (Ouray) Hepatic Tanager (Otero) PAINTED BUNTING (*Jefferson, Otero) JEFFERSON COUNTY: ---On the morning of July 23 a cooperative male Painted Bunting was found by Claire H. at the Chatfield State Park Audubon Center feeders. It continues to appear off and on thru July 30, making it perhaps the most-viewed individual of its species ever in Colorado. If the feeders are down in early morning or in the evening, be sure to check for the bird in trees, shrubs and on the ground in vicinity of feeder poles. On July 28 one specific area where it occurred was the area west of the southernmost of the two buildings, including the bench where mixed seed that included millet, apparently its favorite, had been placed. OTERO COUNTY: ---On Juy 27 a male Painted Bunting was reported by Steve Mlodinow at Higbee Valley Road (Otereo CR 804) ---On the morning of July 27 a yellow (f or imm) Hepatic Tanager was photographed in a cone-laden juniper in Picketwire Canyon (37°39'18.5"N 103°34'04.2"W) south of LaJunta by Steve Mlodinow. Also seen or heard in this area were Black-throated Sparrow, Summer Tanager and White-throated Swift. OURAY COUNTY: ---On July 27 an adult White-winged Dove was reported from Dennis Weaver Park (yes, THAT Dennis Weaver) in the town of Ouray by David and Susan Disher.
