Most of us in the Denver Metro Area woke up to drizzle or rain this
morning, and it seemed a little crazy to the members of the Tuesday crew as
we drove out to the station this morning. But, low and behold, Barr Lake
State Park was cloudy and chilly but dry and most of the nets were
sheltered from the wind. So we opened most of the station and got in about
three hours of banding before it got too cold. Highlight of the day was a
mixed flock that included 6 Black-capped Chickadees, 3 of which had been
banded in prior seasons (2018, 2017, and - drum roll - 2013) and were
recaught for the first time ever today. We also had lots of nice intrepid
human visitors who braved the elements to enjoy the birds with us. 30 new
plus the 3 returns for a total of 33 new birds today:

Black-capped Chickadee 1 new, 3 returns (1 each from 2018, 2017 and 2013)
House Wren 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 5
Hermit Thrush 2
Gray Catbird 1
Orange-crowned Warbler 10
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon's 2
Wilson's Warbler 2
Green-tailed Towhee 1
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 1
White-crowned Sparrow, Mountain 1
Dark-eyed Junco, Oregon 2
Lesser Goldfinch 1 (FOS)

We are now opening nets at 7:40 and should have birds back at the station
by 8:20. We are closing nets most days at 11:40. We are open 6 days per
week, Tuesday-Sunday, through October 13. All of this is weather
permitting! School groups arrive most weekdays at about 9:30. The best time
to visit (fewest people, most birds) is before 9:30 weekdays and Sundays.

Come visit!
