hi zion ,     I was advocating  Interlocked.Increment in the context of Mahesh's post. 
If u want to protect a block of code , i feel explicit variable locking is a better 
(superior ) method.    IMHO , Application.Lock is given primarily for updating 
Name/Value pair map . The primary use of that can be          Application.Lock();      
   Application["SomeName"] = ObjValue.       // some code associated with manipulation 
of Application map       Application.UnLock();   Application.Lock should only be used 
as a last resort.  I feel , System.Threading gives more methods to synchrnize the code 
than we care to look for.   Of course , Using that in the context of ASP.net app 
requires extensive study and expermintation. ( Which i have not done !!! [so far ] )
