i would like to get him a big soft bed instead of
towels, but he still chews up the towels. he is 8 months.
Try the bed he may do just fine in it, at 8 months he is now finally finished with teething so he should get better.  The towels are easier to shred and it may be habit at this point. Some hate the crate, of all of mine, the girls still sleep in their crates with no problem, Mikey my male always hated the crate, he would be fine as long as we were in the room, another words if he went to bed we all should be bed, so when he was about 1 1/2 he started waking up in the night screaming like he had to go out, hubby was usually the one that would take him and then wouldn't put him back in the crate, it started at around 5 the first day, then 3 the next, 3rd night it was 1 in the morning, after that I let him stay out and he sleeps either at the end of the bed or he has his own big pillow by my dresser, I trusted him at this point and have never had a problem since then, he is almost 5 now.
