I tested this in Leopard, 2.x NIBs have this problem, but 3.X NIBs and XIBs do not. It looks like it was a bug that's fixed in Leopard, but preserved in some cases for backwards compatability. Although, I wouldn't consider this bug much of a reason for not using keyed archiving. Even though NS(Un)Archiver aren't deprecated, they have been "replaced".
