No. Files in the app bundle are never opened with write access. Typically users won’t even have permission to modify files in the app bundle (if the app is in /Applications.) I hate to sound alarmist, but my first guess would be filesystem corruption. Ask the customer to run Disk Utility and verify the volume. —Jens
