How about doing the following?

#1: Archive content at http://xml.apache.org/cocoon/ (or delete it entirely). 
#2: Move content over from http://xml.apache.org/cocoon2/ into 
http://xml.apache.org/cocoon/
#3: Add a redirect for existing bookmarks - when they hit 
http://xml.apache.org/cocoon2/ it should
redirect over to http://xml.apache.org/cocoon/
