Have a look at the editor I sent to the list at http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=xml-cocoon-dev&m=102267592214089&w=2 as it reads XML, allows WYSIWYG editing of XML a lot like Xopus, but with a distinction between block and inline elements, and saves the XML content back via a PUT request.
