Second thoughts, how about:

avalon-excalibur-20020612.vm13.jar
avalon-excalibur-20020612.vm14.jar
cocoon.vm13.jar
cocoon.vm14.jar
etc.

...which might make it easier to automate the build process.

If we added a /lib/core/vm13 and a /lib/core/vm14 directory in the 
cocoon source tree we could have both binaries in there whilst allowing 
folk to 'cvs ignore' out the one they don't need and save some bandwidth.
