The sitemap is one of the core components of cocoon 2
and amongst other things allows you to capture a URL
request (by pattern matching) and analyse the query. 

>From there onwards you can generate the source file
(as XML for example), transform it (using XSL) and
serialize it out (to HTML for example).

As a starting point I would check your server
configuration (contexts etc) to ensure that it knows
the location of your cocoon files then check the
sitemap files.
