Jörn, well, as far as I know, the <xsl:output> element in stylesheet doesn't work in Cocoon. But, fortunately, the <indent> element can be set to "yes" in both the XMLSerializer and HTMLSerializer declatarions of the sitemap (as you suggested).
This trims the fat a little... but I'd like to trim Javascript as well ... anyway, thanks for helping me.
