But JSP's deffo do -not- work....and I have yet to
hear otherwise.

My workaround was to deploy org.apache.jasper.jar and
servlet.jar into WEB-INF/lib but I haven't dared see
if this will impact on a deployment in TomCat

The simple workaround is to put a leading slash to
your redirect url.
