Just to test things in a different order, try pointing your venus at
the test server at CMU.  Once you verify you can get venus talking to
a server, then we can look at your server configuration.  As I recall,
there was some more server work to do after running vice-setup to get
a working server.  Things like creating a root volume.  Also, I
created other volumes for the actual storage and just let the root
volume have directories and other mount points.
