The Digital Archivist leads the processing, preservation, and access of the 
Hargrett and Russell Libraries’ born-digital archival collections. This newly 
developed position collaborates with staff from both Libraries to execute and 
maintain existing, shared workflows to manage the born-digital files within 
larger collections. Depending on the collection, this position will either 
provide technical support to processing staff or do the processing in 
consultation with the subject expert. 

The Digital Archivist reports to the Head of Digital Stewardship and works 
closely with the University Archivist, Russell Head of Arrangement and 
Description, and Hargrett Director. Collections housed in the Hargrett and 
Russell Libraries are hybrid collections typically consisting of physical 
papers, artifacts, audiovisual materials, and born-digital files. 

This position is housed in the UGA Special Collections Libraries, a 115,000 
square foot facility that provides collections storage, exhibition and event 
space, research and instruction rooms, staff workspace, and digitization 
facilities for UGA’s three special collections libraries: The Hargrett Rare 
Book and Manuscript Library, the Richard B. Russell Library for Political 
Research and Studies, and the Walter J. Brown Media Archive and Peabody Awards 
Collection. The mission of the University of Georgia Special Collections 
Libraries is to acquire, organize, preserve, and provide access to unique and 
rare materials related to the history and culture of Georgia.
