Hi all,
I have been looking for a USB PIC programmer recently, so that I might
be able to do some programming on my little eeepc, and I came across
something that some of you might be interested in:

http://openprog.altervista.org/OP_eng.html

A completely open source (Hardware schematics, firmware, and
application software) usb programmer for PIC micro, i2c eeprom, and
atmel chips, which uses readily available components, is cheap to
build, and uses standard USB protocols, so no usb driver is necessary.
Unfortunately, this also means it's 100% DIY (including etch your own
pcb), but I think (for myself at least) It's worth it to have a fast
programmer I can use on my laptop, and be guaranteed it will work on
my OS of choice.
