Remove the localdomain part and optionally add the > hostname to that entry. actually there was a line: 127.0.0.1 localhost We tried changing it to: 127.0.0.1 <name_of_host> localhost and to: 127.0.0.1 <name_of_host> The problem persisted and error message was the same. Ping to "localhost.localdomain" does not resolve.
