Cantina virtual de los COLombianos en el EXTerior
--------------------------------------------------

Saturday, July 7th, marked Colombia's President, Andres Pastrana
Arango, first year in office. He was elected with the higher
plurality in the history of Colombia's electoral process.

He promised his people a change aimed at a better tomorrow, instead
what he has created is the worse of times. People of all level of
the Colombian society are seeking a way out of Colombia in search
of a better way of life.

All the ills affecting Colombia that Pastrana was supposed to medicate
are now in a terminal ill stage. His country rampage corruption is
augmenting and his peace talk is going nowhere.

All things considered, Pastrana is a poor excuse for a president of
40 million people. He first year as the Commander-in-Chief is marked
more by failures than by accomplishments. Crime is in the increase,
the quality of being unjust and unfair to the have-not is climactic;
he have taxed the middle-class to the border of extinction while
unemploynet is much higher than under Ernesto Sampel, the man he
replaced as the Head of State.

Sampel, from the outset, became Pastrana's victim. Cynically, Pastrana
who was Sampel's opponent in the election of 94, waited until after
he was sworn as the new president to disrupt his government with the
charges that he, Sampel, accepted campaign money from the Cali drug
cartel. The charges brought Sampel's government to an unable to govern
situation, made worse when Washington sided with Pastrana against
Sampel.

In short, Pastrana's election theme, calling for a change, has in fact
created a change to the worse. The millions spent in traveling expenses
since taking office has many Colombians shaking their heads.
