Cantina virtual de los COLombianos en el EXTerior
--------------------------------------------------

Pastrana flew back to Bogota after visiting an army base outside San
Vicente. The base was cleared of troops at the start of peace talks. On
Friday it became the first landing point for returning troops of the Third
Mobile Brigade counterinsurgency unit.
Pastrana was accompanied by two officials from the US Embassy in Bogota,
with two uniformed members of US Special Forces. The soldiers, who gave
their names only as Colonel Graves and Lieutenant Colonel Tomlinson, were
dressed in camouflage fatigues and did not carry weapons. They rejected
suggestions that they were serving as advisers.
"I've only come for the ride. I'll be back in Bogota for a cold beer by
tonight,'' Graves said.
There has been speculation that the United States, which includes the
Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia on its list of international
terrorist organizations, may be providing some kind of assistance to help
the Colombian military reoccupy the demilitarized zone.
A Colombian Army officer, asking not to be named, said the United States was
providing intelligence information to the Colombian air force and ground
troops, especially helpful in locating hastily abandoned rebel camps and
secret airstrips.
