'The Eazel development group is working with a group of open source
software developers at the GNOME (GNU Network Object Model
Environment) project, which, led by Mexican developer Miguel de
Icaza, was created to build a complete desktop environment for Linux.
Eazel claims that this development, when combined with the well known
strengths of both the Linux operating system and the Open Source
software development model, will "revolutionize desktop computing." '

(...)

'Which begs the question of whether Eazel will have a more legitimate
claim to the Macintosh tradition then will the Macintosh itself under
OS X. Will Eazel be the legitimate heir to the "computer for the rest
of us" vision?'

(...)

''m not saying that OS X and won't be cool, or that it isn't a
quantum leap forward from the old Mac OS -- under the hood. However,
if Eazel can deliver on their promise to make their GUI easier to use
then either Windows or the Mac, then I suspect they will be poised to
give OS X a run for its money. And if the original Mac philosophy
shines through in Eazel more clearly than it does in OS X, there may
be reason for Mac-heads to reconsider their loyalties. After all, it
is the Mac vision and user-experience, not necessarily Apple
Corporation, that we find attractive, isn't it?'
