Surely sendmail reeled when thusly spake Jarmo Lundgren: > > http://www.macopinion.com/columns/macskeptic/02/02/28/index.html > > "MacOS X is the forcible welding of a 30 year old OS and a 18 year > old OS with big chunks of a 15 year old OS glued on for good measure. > It's hard to see how that can be flawless." > quoting: "as I've noted in the past, Unix fanatics love complexity and command lines. They thrive on 'rm' for remove and 'cd' for change directory. Much like Windows was originally crippled by a programming team which hated the mouse and wrote a system which was mouse-unfriendly - most Unix oriented programmers do not like or want a GUI on their computer. If it has to be there, they want it to be there only when necessary." what's this guy's problem ? he wants everything to have cute little icons, and doesn't mind having to move a mouse around all the time ? I mean, I get the point he's trying to make -- the next thing he says is: "The result has been what can at its most generous be called a lack of understanding of UI principles." But I guess it's not unfair to say that Linux has always been more about functionality than usability, it's the nature of the developer base. but even on a Mac, don't you get a bit tired of needing a mouse to do every damned thing ? DO you need a mouse all the time ? (I don't know, I'm asking.) his numbers smell bogus too: "And let's face it, out of every 100 people, 94 are using Windows, 5 are using MacOS and 1 is using some variant of Unix or some other OS." f
