"Entertainment Industries Council advises on depicting terror":

................

' "As an integral part of the entertainment industry for nearly 20 years,
EIC's staff felt compelled to compile this publication," he said.

Among the suggestions the EIC makes to the creative community is to
encourage audiences to understand the importance of preparedness and
organizing family communication plans and evacuation plans as well as
gathering emergency disaster stocks and first-aid supplies. "Show neighbors
working together," the guidelines suggest.

The guidelines also suggest, "Consider story lines that promote donating
goods, donating blood, volunteerism in schools, victim assistance programs,
displaying the American flag in memory of lost lives to terrorism." '

An excerpt:

In a Vehicle:
-----------------

- Try to depict characters always locking their car doors and rolling up
the windows.

- Avoid showing characters leaving their children, purse, wallet, credit
cards, checkbook or cash in their car, especially in view.

- Your characters may want to park cars in well lit parking areas, checking
inside and around the car before entering, rather than parking in isolated
areas. THe character should be especially alert in underground parking
garages and unattended parking lots.

- If the character suspects someone is following him or her, driving home
should be avoided in lieu of heading for the nearest police or fire
station, gas station or other open business for help. The character could
call for help on a cell phone.

- Avoid, where possible, having characters pick up hitchhikers or hitchhiking.

[ Heh, I'd like to see a Hollywood action movie called "Vigilant Everyday
Man III", which starts Bruce Willis first driving a SUV (not exceeding the
speed limit) through a suburb. Then he parks the car cleanly and in order
near a bank.

Bruce carefully empties all the stealable possession from the car: his
wallet, his credit cards, his checkbook, his cash, his wife and his
children. After getting out of the car, he climbs to a street lamp post to
check that the lightbulb is in order.

After that he starts to walk over street (with the wallet, the credit
cards, the checkbook, the cash, the wife and the children) to the bank. At
this point he sees a hitchhicker across the street.

Bruce grabs a flamethrower and burns the potential terrorist to dust.

Then he walks (with the wallet, the credit cards, the checkbook, the cash,
the wife and the children) to the bank. ]
