Hmmm.... Personally I can't see, how finding life elsewhere in the universe 
could exclude the possibility of God. Unless you're taking your Bible 
literally, of course...

But anyway, religious galactic wars sound like a good subject for a massive 
space opera. Let's hint it to Iain M. Banks or Ken McLeod!

There could be mega-fundamentalists, who would deny the whole existence of 
space. They'd try to blow space ships while they're on the launch pads. The 
not-so-mega-fundamentalists would attack the Mars ships after they have 
left the Earth atmosphere.

(Not to mention the Martians, who would be fundamentalists, too. :)
