Ambient is too loose term to describe really anything. If you think in the terms of
the philosophy of the music, japanese noise can be ambient as well, as it is sometimes
aimed to produce these alterations in how audience perceives space and surroundings
(sounds gibbigubbi but actually can work - got myself into fairly disturbed states
listening to Otomo Yoshihides "Memory Disorder" alone at home) or to create a sonic
surroundings into an otherwise bare room or hall.

In a way some of these guy's music is nothing new, as ie. Aube has done thematical
records involving only certain similar or only one sound source(s) such as light bulb,
cardiac system (heart),bible etc. and Aube in turn is an ideological descendant of
Pierre Henry and musique concrete...

Although I feel "lowercase" is a similar name name tag as "microhouse", good pointer
for this stuff (in addition to those mentioned in the Wired article) would12K's
sublabel Line ( http://www.12k.com/line/ ), run by Taylor Deupree (I think Sakari got
this Wire link from 12K newsletter?).

You really can't get this stuff in Finland from almost anywhere except Dis n' Dat in
Helsinki - I heard this first time years ago when Kimmo Rapatti did a track for 12K
and he got some cd's to sell here in Turku and last year when Deupree was giggin in
Koneisto I got some stuff from him. I tried to get Stereofonica to order some cd's,
with no success.
It's not all good, but I love the way some of it puts the sound reproduction into test
- sometimes the digital noise from an old cd-player can be louder than the music!

I don't know about Genesis, but krautrock and similar progressive stuff is doing
pretty well lately; Faust, Can and similar has been re-released. The new Circle live
recording is worth checking, including the last november Avanto gig, which had furor
unmatched by anything I've experienced lately.
Also I've had penchant for music by Kosmischen Kurieren - Rolf-Ulrich Kaiser and his
minions. Spiralling complete madness by an army of dirty hippies. Totally wonderful.
