Joshua McKenzie commented on CASSANDRA-8594:
--------------------------------------------
The pidfile is written by bin/cassandra and bin/cassandra.ps1 on linux and
windows, respectively. The code inside the daemon serves to auto-delete the
pidfile on server shutdown.
The logic to perform that on linux is pretty old (from 2011 on the linux side);
are you seeing circumstances where the pidfile isn't being written? I'd expect
a write permissions issue before code-problem since this is both 1) old and 2)
widely tested.
