Jonathan Ellis commented on CASSANDRA-1780:
-------------------------------------------
Peter: I don't think so, since each insert will either be all in one memtable,
or all in another; it won't be spread across multiple memtables, so our
atomicity guarantee is safe. It's definitely a little unintuitive that a
memtable could be flushed before the write to the commitlog, but it's harmless
as far as the semantics are concerned.

> periodic-sync commitlog mode only flushes before it syncs, which means its
> best case durability is very similar to its worst case. if we had a mode
> that flushed but did not sync then it would only lose data for actual power
> failures.
