The maven/pom.xml is pretty outdated. It has some useful stuff in it for
deployment, testing and project-level detail though. If there is a maven ticket
open (do we want to do that?) it should be attached to such as a starting
point. Either way it should be pruned as it's current state will only be a
source of confusion.
