In terms of the problem being with directory listings, [~brandon.williams] 
mentioned that we could probably even skip the directory listing when doing 
user-defined compactions and just trust the operator.  From there (for general 
compactions), I was curious as to whether a directory cache would cause any 
other issues if the information was ever stale.  Do you have any thoughts on 
that optimization or current problem with the directory listing [~krummas]?
