Stefan Miklosovic commented on CASSANDRA-16984:
-----------------------------------------------

We might ideally move this to separate repository and remove the code in the
Cassandra repository. People might still use this after it is removed and it
would be actually easier to contribute to, it might have separate release cycle
if neccessary, might be based on Maven, better tested and so on (I do not see
any tests now).

It seems to me that the code itself does not have to be in Cassandra directory
directly. I am not too strong in Hadoop but I think the only reason this code
is in the repository is that Cassandra code needs to be on the class path too.
Maybe there are other reasons behind this but I doubt that.

I would hence change the direction of this ticket as of now towards the
investigation if it may be indeed removed what what it takes to run it with
Hadoop when it is extracted.

> The code under org.apache.cassandra.hadoop is becoming a legacy and probably
> should be deleted.
> The code does not have any example / test how to use it, it is not documented
> and it depends on Hadoop of version 1 which is hardly used nowadays.
> This ticket should track its deletion.
> Feel free to object and we might revisit this decision. If we remove it in
> 4.1, it will still be present in 4.0.x where we can still patch.
