Reminder that when this lands we want to drop support for JDK 11 (which we
should have a separate ticket for), and bump the major version. A new major
release that supports JDK 17 and JDK 21 is no longer online-compatible with a
4.x cluster using the same JDK. (We stated we do not want to encourage nor
force operators upgrade versions and JDKs in the same step.)
Therefore the new major release needs to be accompanied with a new major
version, i.e. 6.0. I don't believe this causes additional work beyond the
trivial. And let's not commit trunk to 6.0 until after this has landed (we've
jumped on the "new major version, let's clean up" happy caravan all too
prematurely once already…
