   **Status:** Open: no fix PR
   **Subject:**
`PartialQueryableIndexServableBundlesTest.testUseProjectionNamingUnservedProjectionFails`
 (processing, `unit tests / unit tests(main) (25, R*,B*,P*)`)
   **Failures:** 3 · **First seen:** 2026-10-21 · **Last seen:** 2026-10-21

   ### Root cause

Semantic conflict between two PRs that merged an hour apart. #20617 (merged
11:31Z) added this test, which asks for `useProjection` = the small projection
while only the big projection's bundle is servable, and asserts the message
contains `does not satisfy query`. #20633 (merged 12:39Z, built on an older
base) added a check in `Projections.findMatchingProjection` that throws
`Projection[%s] does not exist` when the name is not in the projection set;
`PartialQueryableIndex.getServableProjection` passes only the servable
projections, so the unserved projection now hits the new branch (line 287,
`Projection[dim1_count] does not exist`). It fails deterministically, 4/4
attempts, on every master commit since def6c1735b (#20633).

   ### Suggested fix

Decide which message is intended for a projection that exists but isn't
servable: either update the assertion at
`PartialQueryableIndexServableBundlesTest.java:287` to accept `does not exist`,
or have `getServableProjection` check the name against the full `projections`
set before filtering (for example, throw a distinct "not loaded" error) so
`does not exist` is reserved for unknown names.

   ### Occurrences

Failed push-triggered master jobs only. The daily triage routine adds one
row per new failed job.
