Before beginning a detailed review or comparing the approaches, could you let us know whether you and the other contributors are still interested in continuing this work? This PR currently conflicts with `main` and has not been updated recently. If you would like to continue, I’m happy to engage here and help work through the next steps. A good first step would be to rebase the PR onto the current `main` branch and resolve the conflicts. We can then review the updated scope and decide how best to proceed.
