Michael Golubev commented on TOMEE-223:
---------------------------------------
Well, providing context path with 'META-INF/context.xml' is an obvious way, but
it is not related to subject, since, to allow debugging from IDE we
historically need to provide functionality to _override_ (!) the context path
defined by the artifact itself.
With the manager app gui, if I specify values of 'Context Path' and 'XML
Configuration file URL' fields, then the deployment fails as well with the
message 'FAIL - Deployed application at context path /myContextPath but context
failed to start'.
So deployment of archives with the deployment descriptors ('XML configuration
file's) looks broken.
If I specify values of 'Context Path' and 'WAR or Directory URL' fields, then
the deployment succeeds. But it does not seem as a good approach to implement
specific deployment for WARs + TomEE -- differently to both (WARs + Tomcat) and
to (other artifacts + TomEE), does it?
Regards,
Michael

> I experience problems with deployment of archive artifacts (WARs and EARs) to
> TomEE 1.0.0.
> An archive artifact is not deployed (as I expect) when deployment descriptor
> is placed into <TomEE home>/conf/Catalina/localhost folder.
> Exactly the same workflow works for exploded artifacts.
> Exactly the same workflow (for WAR's) works for both archive and exploded
> artifcats in just-a-Tomcat.
> I am developing an integration for TomEE and IntelliJ IDEA and can not easily
> workaround by using different deployment methods.

> WAR case looks like obvious downgrade from essential Tomcat, since deployment
