Maxim Solodovnik commented on OPENMEETINGS-2417:
------------------------------------------------
Hello [~jorgelondo],
OM has "star" architecture: all streams goes to server (in case recording is
started no additional bandwidth is consumed)
So I see no improvement here :(
Additional disadvantage might be: user device might be limited with CPU/HDD
etc. so recording might failed to start or failed to be created
> Video recording locally

> Hello, I have been testing other platforms and there is one called Learncube,
> I think it has something that could be applied to openmeetings and that is
> that the recording is done by the user locally and there is a file in
> video.web format.
> I say this because I believe that in countries like mine (Colombia) in cities
> that are not the main ones, the bandwidth is low, therefore making the
> recording locally frees the bandwidth used for the transmission of the
> recording to the server. It would also free up a lot of space on the server.
> That platform has a plugin for Google Chrome. This also avoids the problems
> of recording failure due to small disconnections.
