Review Comment:
   I think @yashmayya  suggesting log number of times we extend (my bad in case 
I misunderstood)? and I'm suggesting that we log the total time that passed 
since we started this convergence check as part of the exception message itself?
   
   I guess overall - we just want to know how long this convergence check ran 
in good case and bad case. Having some info in exception message about this is 
useful to quickly diagnose without getting into logs, no?
